Sennheiser HD 600
Decades on, it is still one of the safest recommendations in wired hi-fi headphones, for listeners at a desk or in a quiet room.

Our verdict
The HD 600 has been a reference point for open-back headphones since the late 1990s and remains in Sennheiser's lineup. SoundGuys still rates its sound quality and comfort highly, and nearly every part, from the cable to the earpads, can be replaced. Its 300-ohm impedance is high, which is worth considering if you plan to use it with a phone or laptop. As with any open-back design it offers almost no isolation, and sub-bass is light compared with modern planar and closed-back alternatives.
