Apple MacBook Pro 14 (M5, 16GB/1TB)
The best display and battery combination in a 14-inch laptop, but only a modest step up from the Air for typical workloads.
Our verdict
The entry MacBook Pro uses the same M5 chip as the Air but adds a fan, so it holds performance under sustained loads, plus a 120Hz mini-LED display that reviewers rank among the best on any laptop. It also brings the ports the Air lacks: HDMI, an SD card slot and a third Thunderbolt port. RTINGS reports around 16 hours of light-use battery life, and reviewers consistently praise the build quality. The trade-offs are an unchanged design, Wi-Fi 6E rather than Wi-Fi 7 on this base chip according to TechRadar, and a price that Apple raised to $1,999 in June 2026. Apple was widely expected to announce M6 MacBook Pro models in late October 2026, so check for a successor before buying.
