ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34 (Core i5-1335U, 8GB/128GB)
One of the fastest Chromebooks under $500, though its battery life and cramped 16:9 screen keep it short of the best.

Our verdict
The Chromebook Plus CX34 uses an Intel Core i5 processor that feels quick in ChromeOS, with a comfortable keyboard and a generous mix of USB-C, USB-A and HDMI ports. This refresh adds a 1080p touchscreen over the earlier model. PCWorld got a little over 13 hours in a low-brightness test but estimated 7 to 8 hours of real use with the brightness turned up, which trails rivals. The 16:9 screen also feels cramped next to taller 16:10 panels, and 128GB of storage is tight if you rely on Android apps or offline files.
